"The students do not pay the tuition tui-tion because tuition is funded by the state for high school students. Students benefit because they get training to prepare them for a well-paying well-paying job, and the state benefits because students will be better prepared for the needs that exist in w a ' . 1 " . i the job market," according to Jack Shell, DATC director. High school students have had several different types of programs from which to choose. They could enroll in any of the regular DATC programs on either a full-time or half-time basis or they could attend any one of several summer exploratory ex-ploratory workshops that were held. The exploratory vocational programs pro-grams that were conducted this summer proved to be successful. Health occupations had over 150 students enrolled. The one-week program allowed students to visit several different types of health professionals as an orientation to the field of allied health science. "The visit to Hogle Zoo and the animal care facilities was particularly particular-ly interesting," one student remarked. remark-ed. Other exploratory programs which attracted students were career ca-reer exploration, computer literacy, drafting, financial management, life management, small engine repair, study skills, word processing and data processing. Eleven students who attended regular DATC day programs were cited by their counselors for outstanding progress during summer school. In the business department the following students were awarded Certificates of Excellence: Lisa Hart and Raellen Perry, Davis High; Megan Parry and Amanda Ivie, Woods Cross High; and Aimee Nelson, Layton High. The drafting department at the DATC had two recipients of Certificates Cer-tificates of Excellence. Jared Valentine, Valen-tine, Davis, and David McQueary, Viewmont, were cited for outstanding outstand-ing progress. Counselors nominated four students in the data processing department for Certificates of Excellence. The awards were given to Janel Wilsey, Layton; and Michele Hansen, Tonya Cheever and Jonathan Cason, all from Viewmont. Kent Charlesworth, Layton High, was given an award of excellence for outstanding achievement as a summer JTPA employee. Receiving award of excellence for their efforts at the DATC during dur-ing the summer are, front, Lisa Hart, Aimee Nelson, Raellen Perry, and Megan Parry, back, Davis McQueary, Jared Valentine, Valen-tine, and Kent Charlesworth. |
