Show Run-away table causes crash that injures five FARMINGTON-A table that had apparently fallen off a truck was the cause of two accidents and five injuries on 1-15 near Lagoon on Saturday. Susan Parker, American Fork, swerved to miss the table in the left lane, skidded off the shoulder and flipped upside down, slid sideways, and rolled into the median. SEE CRASH PG. A-2 Crash CONT.FROMPG.A-l Parker was transported by helicopter to University Hospital, where she was listed in serious but stable condition. The second accident occurred about 25 minutes later, when Brett Wiseman of Orem apparently became impatient with the congestion caused by the accident and turned his vehicle around and headed north nor-th in the emergency lane of southbound 1-15. Wiseman crashed head-on into a car driven by John Schimsa of Missouri who was braking and swerving to avoid hitting the traffic from behind. f , , T . Schimsa and his wife were treated and released from Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful. Wiseman and his wife were treated for cuts on their heads and were also released. Their 10-month-old daughter who was in her car seat in the back was not injured. Both vehicles, a 1989 Nissan Sentra and a 1990 Caprice Classic, were totaled "It appears that the guy (Mr. Wiseman) was tired of waiting for the traffic to move and he just turned his car around and tried to get off the freeway," said UHP Trooper Greg Orr. "He wasn't the only one trying to go against the traffic. There were other cars that were trying to bail out by going the wrong way.' Wiseman was cited in connection with the head-on collision. |
