' 'This is a great community, and we hope to become an integral part of it We look forward for-ward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Bountiful Boun-tiful and its citizens." The store in Bountiful will have approximately 35,000 square feet of retail space. As in all PayLess stores, the pharmacy will be central to the store's operations. Extensive space will also be given to the classic drug store departments cosmetics, health and beauty aids, over-the-counter drugs, and camera and photo processing. In addition, the store will feature household, automotive, sporting goods, and seasonal departments. PayLess opened its first store in 1939 in LaGrande, Ore. Since then, it has expanded to over 400 stores in ten Western states. Modest growth in the early years gave way to rapid expansion in the 70s and '80s. Most significant in that growth were three events: PayLess being listed in the New York Stock Exchange in 1972, the Acquisition of PayLess Drug Stores of Oakland, Calif.; and most notably, PayLess becoming a wholly owned subsidiary sub-sidiary of Kmart Corporation in 1985. This trend of growth and expansion expan-sion is scheduled to continue throughout the 1990s, with 30-40 new store openings planned per year. S3 |
