Emery received his award during a school assembly on Tuesday, Tues-day, while Heaps was to receive her award this afternoon. Emery, an outstanding three-sport athlete, was the main cog in the Davis offense in both football and basketball, as well as a region qualifier for the state 4-A tennis championships. ' The likeable Emery earned all-state honors in basketball, played on the state's all-star team, and was among the top scorers in the county this past winter. He was praised by one member of the Davis High coaching staff as ' 'the hardest worker I've ever seen. You have to think of Bryan as an all-around athlete." Heaps completed a three-year reign as a Wildcat starter in basketball with a superb senior season. She earned all-state honors, was a state all-star, helped the Wildcats to a fifth place finish in state in basketball, and was also a member of the school's fine volleyball team. Heaps recently finished a strong track season by placing in region and qualifying for state in the shot put. "The way Marci has progressed and grown in the last three years is a tribute to the way she's worked at bettering her game," one of her coaches stated. "She's really earned her way to the awards she's received." Both athletes received engraved silver trays from the Clipper. The Athlete of the Year awards culminate a season in which athletes from the four Clipper-area schools were honored weekly week-ly for their achievements. Criteria used for these Athlete of the Year awards included participation in three sports, consistent performance in those sports, plus acclaim from both their own coaches and from opposing coaches. The Clipper would also like to thank Connie Haughn, marketing market-ing director for Utah's Little Caesar's Pizza outlets, who worked work-ed closely with us this year in honoring our weekly winners. Each received certificates from the Clipper, plus pizza from Little Caesar's. Congratulations to all the weekly winners, and good luck in your academic and athletic futures. 9 Q. at w & O O x a.
