Show LHS grad is very accomplished ( J ' - I ! : By DON ETA GATHERUM LAYTON Noel Bravo is one of Layton High's Class of '88 graduates gra-duates that is both ordinary and extraordinary. Born and raised in Layton, Noel comes from a typical family. He is the third from the youngest in a family of five boys and four girls. Noel's father works at the Utility Trailer Company in the Freeport Center. His mother is employed by Clover Club Foods. All members of the Bravo family that are older than Noel, have attended a college or university. Two have graduated. Some are still attending college. Noel will be attending Stanford University next fall. From his educational beginnings at Layton Elementary, Noel says he has "Always enjoyed school." The first success he remembers is winning a pumpkin contest in the second grade. His latest educational achievement achieve-ment is earning the National Hispanic Hispa-nic Scholarship to Stanford University. Uni-versity. Along the way, Noel has accumulated accu-mulated an impressive portfolio of awards, honors and achievements. He passed the AP American history, his-tory, biology and Spanish exams and will soon take the English exam. He was voted the "Most Intellectual In-tellectual Senior" by fellow members mem-bers of the Senior Class. In 1987 and 1988 he scored very high on the National Math Exam. Noel's activities haven't stopped stop-ped in the classroom. This year he is the president of the National Honor Society and the editor-in-chief of the award winning school newspaper. He is also a senator in the Layton High student government, govern-ment, the Layton High correspondent correspon-dent for "The Clipper," and reporter repor-ter for "Lancer Plaudits," a special spe-cial newsletter mailed to the homes of Layton High School students, and a participant in the HAFB Moot Court Competition. According to Noel, his most impressive im-pressive accomplishments are earning the National Hispanic Award and serving his community and high school through involvement involve-ment in the school newspaper and the Honor Society. "I love Layton and I love Layton High School even more," Noel stated. Noel admits academic achievements achieve-ments come with a high price tag. "I spent most of my Junior year sitting at my desk," he said. "But it paid off through the scholarships I received and the AP tests I passed. This extraordinary student recognizes rec-ognizes that achievements come through help from others. "The faculty fa-culty at Layton High is terrific," he observed. "I have been especially helped by Mrs. Odoardi, Mr. Harris Har-ris and Ms. Schroader. There are many other teachers throughout the years that have directed me and helped me set the goals of gaining an undergraduate degree in English and then completing medical school." NOEL BRAVO |
