Show Dale Clyde, USCG serving on cutter Fireman Apprentice William D. Clyde, USCG, son of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Clyde of Canyon Road, Springville, Utah, is serving aboard the U.S. Coast Guard's high endurance cutter Bering Strait en route to Ocean Station "Victor" 2200 miles northwet of Howaii. While on station, the cutter will serve as a floating weather station, navigational and communications com-munications check point for trans-Pacific aircraft, and stands ready to render aid to surface vessels and aircraft in distress. U.S. Weather Bureau observers observ-ers and Coast Guard oceano-graphic oceano-graphic technicians will gather weather data, ocean samples, both physical and biological. Following the 21-day patrol the cutter will conduct an oc-ennnographic oc-ennnographic survey en route to Yokosuka. Jpan, where the crew wlill be treated to 10 days of rest and recreation. |
