Show Symphonic band concert planned Brigham Young University Symphonic Band will be featured fea-tured in concert Thursday, (February 20) at 8:15 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall before leaving on a one-week tour of Northern California. Soloists for te concert will include bassoonist Tonia Mar-cune. Mar-cune. She will perform the "Bassoon Concerto" by Mozart, a number specifically arranged for the BYU Band by Ralph G. Laycock. Recently Miss Mar-cune Mar-cune won an invitation to perform per-form as soloist with the Las Vegas Symphony. The enUre percussion section will be featured in a unique role as the Band plays Clifton Williams' "Concertino." The Symphonic Band will be conducted by Richard Ballou, director of bands at BYU. He is also director of the BYU Cougar Marching Band and a director of Utah Valley Opera Asociation productions and BYU drama productions. Professor Ballou will be assisted as-sisted by Grant C. Elkington, associate director of bands, and Robert Cambell, BYU percussionist percus-sionist and assistant director of bands. |
