Show Awards Springville publisher honored; newspaper wins recognition Springville publishers and newspaper shared a bright spot in Tjtah State Press Association Associa-tion convention held during the past week in Salt Lake City's Hotel Utah. Harrison Conover, editor-publisher of the Springville Herald for the past 35 years and also publisher of the Mt. Pleasant Pyiamid and Eureka Reporter, was winner of the Master Ed itor and Publisher Award for 1968. He was presented the award at a breakfast Sunday, bv Frank W. Mountford, the the best front page competition as well as third place in other categories. Earlier at the convention, Martin Conover, present Springville Spring-ville Herald publisher, was named vice president of the Utah Pres Association. 1967 recipient. At the same meeting Don Carlos Johnson (1847-1931) editor ed-itor and publisher of the Springville Spr-ingville Independent for over 20 years, was named to the Utah Newspaper Hall of Fame by the Press Association in recognition of his years of outstanding service to the newspaper industry in the state of Utah. He was the father of Gus Johnson of this city. The award was presented to Mr. Johnson at his home here Monday Mon-day following the Salt Lake an-ncucement. an-ncucement. A. B. Bibson, chairman chair-man of the event, and Pleasant Grove publisher, made the presentation. pres-entation. Mr. Johnson joins 20 other newsmen named to the hall since 1962. Climaxing the three-day convention con-vention was the presentation Sunday afternoon of plaques to Newspaper Contest. Plaques were given to the first, second and third place winners in ten categories. The Springville Herald Her-ald placed second in general ?xcellence in the group two nevspaper and took second in |
