III ESSAY WINNERS who presented their papers at the American Ameri-can Legion Auxiliary meeting held last week are, left to right, John Hafen, Jr., Stephanie Sumsion, Wanda Boyer, Glenn Taylor. 150 students participated; 25 were in finals. Americanism essay winners are presented at auxiliary meet Four winners of the Americanism Ameri-canism essay contest were featured fea-tured at the American Legion Auxiliary meeting held on Lincoln's Lin-coln's birthday as part of an Americanism pro gram. The hall was decorated in keeping with Lincoln's birthday. Lela Nelson was in charge and the program included two vocal selections by Dennis F. Papworth, accompanied by his wife. Four winners, whose essays es-says were written about tho subject: ''I Am an American and I Speak for Democrocy," read their essays and were presented pre-sented trophies. These included the following: Wanda Boyer, eighth grade and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Boyer; John Hafen, eighth grade, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hafen; Stephanie Sumsion, ninth grade, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Sumsion; and Glenn Taylor, Navajo Indian foster child of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest A. Strong, Jr., also an eighth grade student. Parents of the students were invited guests. John Hafen Sr., responded wilh a talk on "Americanism." Other special guests for the occasion included department president, Etta Nelson of Og-den, Og-den, and district president, Af-ton Af-ton Oborn of Payson and their husbands. Hostesses for the patriotic program were Clara Sumsion, Inez Chader, Edith Miner, La-Rue La-Rue Walker, Marva Davis. Favors Fa-vors were Lincoln motifs. There were over 50 in attendance. |
