Show Eggs taken at Strawberry Cutthroat and rainbow trout eggs have been taken from the spawning fish at Strawberry Reservoir as the fish began to move into the traps on both the north and south ends of the lake. Rainbows were the first to show up in the Department of Fish and Game traps with the cutthroat trout moving in about three weeks later. During the first part of the first week in May, approximately approxi-mately 160,000 cutthroat eggs were taken and about 300,000 rainbow eggs. Additional eggs from both species of fish will be taken as the fish move up stream and the females ripen until the run concludes in late June. Cutthroat spawners are running run-ning about two to three pounds in weight; the rainbows are slightly larger. |
