Show Redmen triumph HURRICANE - CHS baseball players traveled to Hurricane to test their skills against the Tigers team, and in a pre-season, practice match for both teams, Cedar grabbed a 2-0 victory. Getting the win for Cedar High was senior pitcher David Carter. Carter pitched five innings, in-nings, giving up just one hit and striking out nine. Bryce Gubler, another senior, pitched the final two innings of the game, striking out four, and preserving the Cedar win. Hurricane was able to get through for just one hit while CHS achieved lour. Carter got one single in the sixth, and Kelly Peterson produced one in the fourth. Peterson drew a base on balls twice in the game, in the second and sixth innings. Shane Baggs had twe other two singles for the Reds. Both hits proved to be RBI producers. In the fourth inning, i Peterson had advanced to I second base after hitting a clean single. Baggs came on to bat and came up with the single that enabled Peterson to score. Baggs came through once again in the sixth, stroking another single to score Layne Holmes from second base. Holmes had arrived on base alter being walked by the Hurricane pitcher Gubler. The game was the first played by this year's Redmen squad. The 2-0 win will boost the team's morale as they prepare to face their region opponents, op-ponents, says coach Dave Jenson. |
