Show Parowan Council reduces water rates present time, thus freeing up $5,000 more for the city's water fund. The new rates schedule will provide for charges from $7 to $28 for a demand fee, depending upon the size of the hookup hook-up serving the individual connnections. Added to this demand fee will be a charge of 20 cents per thousand gallons of water used. Under the new rate schedule, a resident with an average -inch hookup hook-up will be charged $9 for 10,000 gallons of water, and $17 for 50,000 gallons. citizens turned out to council meetings to protest the rates. According to Mayor Jim Robinson, the rollback was made because the committee was able to find and prove information that the council didn't have earlier. Basically, there were two reasons for the change, he said. "First, the rate increase was not necessary to receive projected expenditures." Apparently, the consulting con-sulting firm hired by the city didn't have up-to-date information, said Robinson. Secondly, the city council voted not to hire a city manager at the PAROWAN - The Parowan City Council reversed its earlier stand on the town's water rates last week and rolled back water prices to a level only slightly higher than rates charged before the increase. The new rates set the water prices at about 30 percent over what the original rates were, but much lower than the earlier increase which nearly doubled the rates. The change was made Oct. 15 after a citizen's committee appointed by the council recommended the rate decrease. The committee had been studying the water system budget every since a large number of Parowan High School students fire away during last week's rifle shoot, sponsored by the journalism department. depar-tment.
