Show ' s ' r f Puppeteers pose with a poster advertising the upcoming up-coming puppet show, "Songs of Gaspar the Pirate." The operetta, featuring six larger-than-life puppets, pup-pets, will be presented October 23rd at SUSC. Puppet show to open Have you ever seen a nine foot puppet? How about a 15 foot mermaid? Both will be featured in the Bits 'n Pieces Puppet Show to be presented tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the SUSC Auditorium. There will be one performance only, and admission prices for this performance will be $1 per person or $3 per family. SUSC students will be admitted free with their activity card. This special traveling performance is being sponsored by the Cedar City Fine Arts Council and the Associated Students of Southern Utah State College. Bits 'N Pieces Puppet Theatre combines the talent of experienced puppeteers, actors, musicians, and composers com-posers to produce operas, ballet and musical theatre. Gargantuan nine-feet-tall to eleven-feet-tall handcrafted "Body Puppets" are used by the Bits 'N Pieces Theatre to present exciting ex-citing theatrical events where grownups are child-sized. Beginning in 1971 as an educational adjunct to the local school system, Bits 'N Pieces became a not-for-profit organization in 1976. In 1978, the puppet theatre began touring in the Southeastern United States and will tour to the East Coast, Southwest and Great Lakes Region of America this year. While in the area, Bits 'N Pieces Puppet Theatre will perform "Songs of Gaspar the Pirate," which ... reenacts the escapades of Jose Gaspar, last captain of the Buccaneers. Based on Florida folklore this operetta is enacted by six larger-than-life monumental puppets. The story takes place in 19th century Ybor City where the beautiful flamenco dancer, Rosita Inez, lived. In love with her beauty, Jose Gaspar kidnapped Rosita Inez, thus beginning this swashbuckeling romance. The action builds as Don Pedro, the hero of the play, tries to rescue the heroine from pirate Gaspar.
