Show St. Gecrge Cemp Company 255S. St. George. Utah, was visited by Capt. William H. Riley, Fort Douglas District Medical Medi-cal Inspector Monday afternoon. Captain Riley was accompanied by 1st Lieutenant Cowen, commander of the Pinto company and Mr. Thompson, educational dierctor of company 1508, Cedar City, Utah. They were taken on an inspection of the camp by Capt. Fred Klenk, company commander. Monday evening the members of the company attended an illustrated illustrat-ed lecture on the National Parks of Southern Utah and other beauti-; beauti-; ful points of interest in and around Utah. H. L. Reid. Naturalist and Lecturer, showed the boys his collection col-lection of beautifully colored slides ! of Bryce, Zion and Grand Canyons, 'along with other interesting pictures pic-tures of pioneer achievements peculiar to Southern Utah. Clerk of the j department of grazing of DG-45, jand Albert Kindle, truck operator, j left camp Monday morning for I Salt Lake City to obtain equip-j equip-j ment and supplies for DG-45. I While in Salt Lake they will pro-bably pro-bably take in the "Turkey Day" football game between the U. of U. and the U.S.A.C. The basketball team of company 2558 had its first taste of outside ! competition last Friday evening with the Veyo CCC team. The 'game was close and interesting ' throughout. Both teams played a ,very defensive, cautious game. In ,the last quarter the boys from , Mississippi began to pull away I from their smaller but scrappy rivals, from Kentucky. The final ' score was 22 to 13 in favor of Veyo. Capt. Rueben E. Curtis arrived at company 2558 Friday afternoon, and Friday night held a lecture in the Mess Hall at 7 p.m. He also spent the week-end as the guest of company 2558. Capt. Vernon Petterson, Inspector In-spector of the Fort Douglas district, dis-trict, spent Sunday evening and Monday morning as the guest of Capt. Klenk. Monday morning he made an inspection of the camp, and later with Supt. D. M. Thompson Thomp-son inspected the Wolfe Hole Spike camp. Gene Carroll, machine operator, and his wife are taking a thirty j day leave, during this time they , will visit relatives and friends of I Mr. Carroll's at Anneta, Kentucky, j The buildings of the company are being reroofed under the supervision super-vision of Henry Pickett and his helper, Owen Pendleton. Company 2558 will have a bas-; bas-; ketball game Friday night,, with the Veyo team. This is the first game for either team. The boys of company 2558 are from Kentucky while the boys of Veyo are from I the state of Mississippi. It will be an interesting game because it 'wjll show the different style of , basketball played in either state. The company carpenter has been ! very busy for the past week putting put-ting in a new ceiling of ply-wood in the Recreation Hall. When the j work is finished it will add ma-I ma-I terially to the attractiveness of the Recreational center, as well as the warmth and comfort of the enrollees. It is planned to put a new ceiling ceil-ing of the same kind in the company com-pany Mess Hall. |
