An additional ad-ditional five feet of digging was necessary to find the skull, said Sheriff Prince. Badly Crushed Witnesses at the well declare that the skull was badly crushed indicating that Malan was killed in Washington county before being dropped down the well which is located about five miles from Modena in Iron county. Work was 1 started on the timbering of the J well at 8 this morning and the head was found at 3:30 this after-j after-j noon. Mrs. Eva Henline of Magna, a I sister was here to consult Attorney Attor-ney Hafen yesterday and to see about taking Malan's body away for burial. She was informed that the body could not be moved until after the trial. Mrs. Henline is reported to have stated that Malan was "not a black sheep" and that the family would stand back of prosecuting officials in an effort to see that a clear picture of "murder charge" was presented. Sign Confession The finding of the body in the abandoned well was made possible following the confession of Boss-hardt Boss-hardt that he killed Malan in March of 1935 in self defense. He asserts that Schafer assisted him in disposing of the body by dropping drop-ping it down the well. Additional information connected connect-ed with the killing of Malan was sought Monday by Attorney Hafen and Sheriff Prince when they spent the day at Enterprise questioning ques-tioning citizens of that community-regarding community-regarding the lives of Malan, Malan's wife, who married Boss-hardt Boss-hardt about a year following the disappearance of Malan, and Schafer. Just what the state will do to break the self defense plea of this group was not divulged by the officials. Both Bosshardt and Schafer are being held in the county jail. Sheriff Prince brought Schafer here from Salt Lake City where he was arrested. |
