Show CCC Building Destroyed By Fire Of Unknown Origin SPRINGDALE, Utah Fire of uncertain origin destroyed a building build-ing of the vacated NP-2 CCC Camp at Zion National Park on November 16. The structure formerly for-merly the administration building and "officers quarters, was made over into a community club house for Park employees when the fire broke out. Other camp buildings were protected and no damage done. The Bridge Mountain Camp was working on the building at the time. Three of the boys were working in the building at the time of the fire, one had left the room to get a drink, and was returning re-turning when he saw another dash out the door shouting fire. The third had gone to another part of the camp and heard the alarm from a distance. The youth, a Springdale boy, who gave the fire call was alone in the building when the blaze started but could give no coherent account of its origin. The boys were staining and decorating the walls. At the call of fire nearby work crews swarmed to camp with fire buckets, hose and chemicals, but the dry tar covered structure blazed quickly and efforts to stop the fire were of little avail. Probably Pro-bably at least half the building could have been saved had not the water from the camp lines been shut off and part of the pipe removed. re-moved. The damage was estimated at about $400.00 |
