Show TAKE DilTmP Troops from St. George, Washington, Santa Clara and Nevada Join in Two Day Outing at Boulder Approximately 3 50 Boy Scouts and their leaders and Scout officials of-ficials gathered at Williamsville on the Nevada side of the Colorado Colo-rado river, just above the Black canyon, Thursday evening for a two-day outing. Three troops from St. George and one each from Washington and Santa Clara of the Zicn park district were present in addition to eight troops from Moapa and Las Vegas of the San Bernardino district. Scout officials present included includ-ed George H. Brimhall, chairman chair-man of the court of honor, Tim-panogos Tim-panogos council; A .A. Anderson, Ander-son, chief executive, and A. M. Anderson, director of leadership training, Oscar A. Kirkham. associate as-sociate regional executive of region re-gion 12 and Andrew J. Roberts, executive of the San Bernardino council. On Friday two federal reserve guides conducted the group to points of interest in connection with the construction of the dam, and that evening Walker R. Young lectured to the group, explaining how the work was being be-ing done, the purpose, and the stupendousness of the undertak-I undertak-I ing. ' Throughout the time spent at j the government reservation the j guides were very courteous and ; helpful in giving information to! the boys and leaders. I Friday evening of group of IS men went down the river from i Williamsville in boats, and were taken through the divers-ion tunnels tun-nels and all details of the work explained to them by Deputy-Ranger Deputy-Ranger Stringfellow. Troop 403 of St. George made the highest number of points. The events and winners were: Archery Carl Shakespeare, gold -medal; Fay Tobler, Overton, Over-ton, silver; Wayne Whitehead, bronze. Singing Troop 403, St. George first; troop 402 honorable mention. men-tion. Bugling Wayne Bentley, gold medal. Cooking Troop 403, first; Santa Clara, honorable mention. Indian signaling Murdell Earl, gold medal; Wayne Whitehead, White-head, silver; Wayne Bentley, branze. Signaling Fay Tobler, Overton, Over-ton, gold medal. Murdell Earl, bronze Eagle palm. This Scout is the third one in the St. George district to receive this honor, the others being Heber and Carlyle Thompson. Thomp-son. The rank was awarded by Oscar A. Kirkham. Wilford Cannon was awarded Star rank by A. A. Anderson. Wayne Bentley received a sec-od sec-od class rank from George H. Brimhall. The following Bunkerville Scouts received tenderfoot badges: badg-es: Jack Wittwer, Carl Wittwer, Jack Leavitt, Dasl Leavitt, Orlo Leavitt, Ferron Bunker, Floyd Waite, Rodney Waite, Kenneth Fail and Lester Adams. Citizens of Bunkerville killed a beef for the occasion and pieces were distributed to the boys to cook over the campfires for their evening meal. |
