Show 1044 DEER TIEN FROM RESERVE Almost Half of Number Were Two-Pointers; Total To-tal of 1681 Hunters Checked Check-ed Through All Stations Sixteen hundred eighty-one hunters, checked into the Pine Valley mountain preserve through Cedar City and St. George-controlled checking stations, bagged a total cf 1044 deer during the season ending last Friday night. Last year 1003 deer were checked check-ed out by a slightly smaller number of hunters. The above figures do not take into account the deer killed outside out-side the preserve, the Beaver Dams country and other sections not included in its boundaries While no detailed check was made last year on the size of the deer, this year station attendants attend-ants were required to get this information in addition to their other duties. The animals killed this season sea-son were generally smaller than last; of the total number brought through the stations, almost al-most half were small two-pointers. Opinions differ as to why this was the case. During the early part of the season nearly all the deer killed were small, most of the larger ones being killed toward the close of the season. This year's figures 'follow: Checked through stations on the St. George division: Two-pointers 2 60 Three-pointers 124 Four points or larger 208 Total 59 2 Checked through stations on the Cedar City division: Spikes 4 per, cent Two-pointers.. 49 per cent Three-pointers 2 4 per -cent Four-pointers 5 per cent Six-pointers- 3 per cent A total of 452 deer were checked out through stations controlled by the Cedar City-club. |
