Show NEWS OF THE BOY SCOUTS The following recommendations of awards were made at the recent court of honor meetings: Troop 1, Carl Moss, scoutmaster, merit badges in life saving, sav-ing, athletics and first aid to W. Tell Gubler; first class badge and merit badges in chemistry, insect life, reptile rep-tile study, public health, civics and pathfinding to Lowell A. Woodbury; merit badges jn automobiling, craft-work craft-work in metal and gardening to George Jarvis. Troop 2, Geo. Thompson, Thomp-son, scoutmaster, merit badges in life saving to Rulon Cottam, merit badge in swimming to Henry J. Nicholes, merit badges in craftwork in wood, carpentry and dairying to Owen Cottam; Cot-tam; merit badges in leatherchaft and swimming to George Harmon. Troop 3, B. Glen Smith, scoutmaster second class badge to Lowell Adams and Roy Anderson, merit badges in swimming and life saving to Wm. D. Dixon. Lowell Woodbury and George Jarvis qualified for star awards, and W. Tell Gubjer qualified for the life award. The boys of troop 3 offered their services to the Dixie College during Leadership week. They managed the registration of all visitors, and were available for miscellaneous errands required re-quired by those in charge. Other troops also assisted. An intensive training course for scout leaders was given during the recent re-cent Leadership week at the Dixie College. Two sections were maintained maintain-ed one for troop leaders and one for patrol leaders. Both sections were well attended. St. George, Kanab and Moapa Stakes were represented. The total enrollment was about 60, about two thirds of these being in the patrol leader division. Mr. Smith conducted the work, and he was assisted by Executive Ex-ecutive John A. Young. Preparations for the eighteenth anniversary an-niversary of the birth of scouting are well under way. Three troops of St. George will combine to make the week successful. The week will be ushered in by a public court of honor meeting on Feb. 5. The scout show, "Knights of the Square Table" will be produced produc-ed at the Electric Theater on Feb. 8, and the three troops will conduct a rally on Feb. 9. Executive Young , has brought the local scouts plans for the annual Sop-arovan Sop-arovan to be held in Cedar City in May. The troops will center their work, the next few months, in preparation prep-aration for this event. A loving cup is to be presented to the winning troop of the council. Troop 3 is conducting" an advancement advance-ment contest ; during ' January. The scouts are showing' much enthusiasm. |
