Show GUN CLUB MAPS YEAR'SJROGRAM The board of directors of the Dixie Rod and Gun Club met at the office of Dr. A. J. Hutchings Sunday, and mapped out an extensive program for the year. Business of genuine interest to the entire county was transacted, It was decided to apply to the state game commission for increased protection pro-tection for fish and game in this county. It was the expressed opinion that to thoroughly and properly protect pro-tect fish and game a full-time, salaried sal-aried game warden should be appointed ap-pointed as is the case in other counties coun-ties of the state. Heretofore a warden war-den has been appointed to serve without pay and it is therefore impossible im-possible for him to devote any great deal of time to the work. Application will be made to the federal fish hatchery at Springville to secure leaeral shipments or young fish over and above the shipments sent out by the state. The club feels that the public should have the advantage ad-vantage of greater numbers of fish in our streams and reservoirs. Cedar City Rod and Gun Club will be invited to participate with St. George in a 50-bird shooting contest on Sunday, January 29th. It was deemed advisable to appoint a captain to head a team to be chosen to represent Dixie at various shooting events the club may enter. The captain, cap-tain, will have full control of traps and grounds and may select his team from the members of the club. The name of James Johnstun was passed on by the club as the man for this position. A play will be put on soon, headed by J. M. Higgins and Bryan Lund. The play will be shown in the various towns of the county for the two-fold purpose of raising necessary funds and to increase the membership of the club. The trap grounds are to be improved improv-ed for future shooting events, giving better facilities for both entrants, and spectators. The work will be done immediately. It was decided to put in a rifle range at the local club grounds for the benefit of boys and women who may join the club, and who desire to enter a series of shooting contests. Boys between the ages of 10 and 16 years and ladies will be admitted for an entrance fee of 50 cents. Slips for renewal of memberships are to be sent out to all old members immediately, it being the aim of the club to make this a banner year for increased membership. To give the public a better idea of the good work being done by the club each year it should be known that through the recommendation of the Rod and Gun club game preserves can be opened or closed at will as the state officials relay entirely on the recommendation recom-mendation of the club in these matters. mat-ters. The club is a very important cofiirintr HpQirprt action latuui 'u""a from the state. Profits derived from traps and grounds are to be divided as follows: 80 per cent to go toward defraying tlfe expenses of a trap-shooting team when out of town representing the Dixie Rod and Gun Club at various shooting meets, and 20 per cent will be kept as a reserve to maintain the trap ground in good repair. The regular meetings of the club will be held at the office of Dr. A. J. Hutchings on the last Sunday of each month at 4 o'clock p. m. |
