Almost airtight air-tight ball Was witnessed in both games. Very few errors were charged against the boys. In the first game Bob MComb's Giants won from Kenneth Cannon's Cubs 3 to 2 in a five-inning contest. In the second game between Ru-lon Ru-lon Snow's Yankees and Wesley Nelson's Phillies, the former eked out a win by the same score. To lend color to the occasion the official start was made with Mayor H. T. Atkin in the box, George F. Whitehead behind the bat and Warren Cox on first, with Jos. K. Nicholes at bat. Considerable improvement im-provement was noted in the mayor's may-or's delivery since he last took the slab a year ago. While the heavy-hitting Nicholes connected with one of his whizzers for a two-lbagger, the mayor had little difficulty in fanning Ellis Pickett. Pick-ett. Then feeling he had done a good day's work, he turned it over to the boys and the junior season was under way.
