Crowl led off with a homer in the bottom of the first inning in a game with Pleasant Grove last week. Ute baseballers lose games to Pleasant Grove The game was a scoreless tie after two innings, but the Vikings erupted for ten runs and beat the Uintah Utes, 10 to 0, in the first game of a doubleheader in Pleasant Grove, Saturday. The Utes encountered en-countered tough luck in the second game as the Vikings won 16-1. Uintah's JV team beat Altamont, 10-7 and 3-2 and lost to Union. Uintah's junior varsity team will host Altamont, Thursday at 2 p.m. and the Ute varsity team will host Timp-view, Timp-view, Saturday at 12 noon. Uintah pitcher, Mike Robbins got the final two outs in the bottom of the second inning on strike outs, but Pleasant Grove ended its scoring drought in the bottom of the third with six runs for a 6-0 lead. Grothe was walked and scored Pleasant Grove's first run. Chambers and Baldridge singled and scored on a double dou-ble by Walker. The Vikings' Walker scored on a single by Hall and a double by Brouden scored Hall. Brouden scored the Vikings' sixth run. Pleasant Grove added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning for a 10-0 lead. Stoney was walked and Chambers ripped a double. A single by Walker knocked in Stoney and Chambers and Hill drove in Walker with a single. A triple by Allred scored Hill. Uintah gained one base runner in the top of the second inning on a walk by Dale Wood, but Gary Swim grounded out and Robbins flied out. Dereck Sheffield singled with one out in the third inning, but Larry Crowl and Randy Nelson grounded out. Darin Nelson singled in the fourth inning and a sacrifice hit by Wood moved him down the base paths. However, the final batter struck out. Uin- tah had three base hits in the fifth inning, inn-ing, but couldn't score any runs. Brad Richens singled, but committed the second se-cond out. Jim Abegglen and Crowl singled, singl-ed, but Randy Nelson flied out for the third out. The Utes' first batter in the bottom of the first inning scored the only Uintah run in a 16-1 loss to Pleasant Grove in the second game as he led off with a home run to cut the Viking lead to two runs at 3-1. The Vikings scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Chambers singled singl-ed and scored on a triple by Baldridge. Walker knocked in Baldridge with a single and Walker scored the third run. After the homer by Crowl, Randy Nelson was walked, but the next three batters were retired. Pleasant Grove scored seven runs in the top of the second inning for a 10-1 advantage. ad-vantage. Grothe, Bezzart and Chambers were walked. Baldridge and Walker singled. Hill was walked and Allred was hit by the pitcher. Bronson ripped a single and Norman connected for a two run homer. Grothe, Bezzart, Chambers, Walker, Hill, Allred, Bronson and Norman Nor-man all scored for the Vikings. Uintah got out of the inning when Grothe and Bezzart struck out. The Vikings scored three runs in the third and fifth innings for a 16-1 lead. Chambers ripped out a double and scored on a double by Baldridge. Walker drilled the ball over the fence for a homer and a 13-1 lead. Pleasant Grove was blanked in the fourth inning, but added three more counters in the fifth. Eyre, Conner and Norman singled and scored. |
