Show 1982 Sterling Scholar performs for competition p MarKay Caldwell. Northeast Utah's 12 Sterling Scholar in music, traveled to Morgan Tuesday. April 19 to perform a piano solo for the 19S3 Sterling Scholars, their parents and friends at the annual Sterling Scholar competition held at Morgan High School. Elisa Carlile of Wasatch High School in Heber City was selected as the 1983 Music Sterling Scholar at that competition. competi-tion. KSL celebrity. Jackie Nokes. acted as mistress of ceremonies for the evening's even-ing's events. In January MarKay. a student at SUSC in Cedar City, was selected as second runner-up in the Snow Queen contest. She was the winner in the talent portion of that contest with a piano solo. MarKay is a former student of Eleanore Marshall and is now studvine with Dr. Cambell of SUSC. V i i - I ' - f 1 MarKay Caldwell When MarKay was asked about her -thoughts on being a college freshian, Z she stated that being a Sterling Scho'r " had been very helpful as people vet-': aware of w ho she was and what she id when she arrived on camp-js. She " laughingly said she wasn't so sure if she " ' really knew yet what was happesis"" academically, but she certainly has a broader perspective on life outside of :he Uintah Basin and a greater appreciate of the Basin and the people in it. MarKay is serving as secretary to the SUSC Student Senate working directly with the studentbody vice president. She credits her being able to obtain this position posi-tion to the fine training she received while working for Tanner Bnmson Pickett & Co. of Vernal. MarKay. also, confided that she had found out some interesting things aboa ' herself and also about finances. She thinks life at SUSC is -really neat" and hopes that her experiences will give her something worthwhile to contribute to her community and her church andr prepare her to be of assistance to a husband hus-band and children. |
