Show Long selected May teacher of month Lowell Long has been selected as teacher of the month for May 1982 by the Uintah School District. Long has been a teacher at Ashley Elementary School since his graduation gradua-tion from Utah State University in 1963. He is currently teaching fourth grade, but has taught both fifth and sixth. six-th. Ten years ago Long started the i Ashley Singers, a group of students who sing for special programs every year. The group which started as fifth and sixth graders, now includes forty students from the third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades. Long, who is the conductor, con-ductor, spends many after-school hours rehearsing with his group. Mr. Long is well liked by his students, j who comment about him: "He reads good books to us." "You're No. 1 with me, I wish you were my Dad. I am glad ,i you help me when I am blue." "You've j taught me so much. I wish you would S have to move up every grade with me." " "You are probably one of the top J teachers. ""You have taught me a lot in ' reading, spelling and science." "You are a good P.E. teacher and 1 have enjoyed en-joyed it a lot." ; Lowell Long was born Jan. 4, 1936 to Winifred and Delma Long. He attended school at Alterra Junior High and Union ' High School. After graduation he went to California to audition for the Army band. Before he received the results of the audition, his sister talked him into going to college. Since he was already in the Army, it took a lot of red tape to get him out. i Long started college at Sena Jr. Col- j lege, but after one year was called on an LDS mission to Minnesota. .; Upon returning home he served in the National Guard for six months before attending Utah State University. . Long is married. He and wife Fern have seven children. His hobbies are sports and music. He runs approximately approx-imately two miles a day, no matter what the weather. Long is often found among the joggers jog-gers and soccer players in the fourth grade. |
