Show Pilot drains on airport runway to be covered A bid opening on closing the Bureau of Reclamation Vernal Unit of the Central Utah Project drains built about 15 years ago has been scheduled for June 15. The land drainage project is located on the east side of the north-south runway of Vernal Municipal Airport starting about the middle of the runway and going south, stated Larry Rhoades, Bureau of Reclamation engineer. The project was the first pilot drain in Ashley Valley , and since its construction covered drains have been used to drain highly saturated areas in the valley. The project is estimated to cost about $100,000 and will include excavation at the bottom of the existing open drain to provide for placement of drain pipes. The contractor is to provide and place 450 feet of 8-inch pipe and 1,600 feet of 12-inch pipe in a gravel envelope, and to provide other structures and equipment. |
