Show WEBER DOWNS VIKES Weber State clinched its first winning season in ten years when they downed Augustana of South Dakota 27 to 7 Saturday. The win improves im-proves Weber's record to 6- 3. The Wildcats rang up 403 yards in total offense. Steve Baggs hauled in a 27 yard touchdown pass from Milt Myers on the Wildcats' first series of the game and made an amazing catch of a 14 yard scoring strike from Tim Bernal with one second left in the second period. Robin Gabriel, son of Roman Gabriel, a former Los Angeles Ram quarterback, came off the bench in the third quarter and passed underdog un-derdog New Mexico to a 7- 7 tie with Utah Saturday. Gabriel passed 33 yards to Robert Mitchell for the score which tied the game and the Lobo defense put the damper on Utah's hopes for a comeback. Utah went down gamely in the face of the inspired Lobo defense, with Gibert Alvarez' 60 yard field goal attempt just short as time ran out. The Utes scored their touchdown on a 68 yard drive in the second quarter with Ferguson passing to Tony Graham for gains of 11, 12 and 10 yards to move to the Lobo 25. Hilria Johnson and Carl Monroe hit the line five times to cover the final yards with Monroe darting in from six for the touchdown. The Utes blew a chance to win the game late in the first quarter when Alvarez' 39 yard field goal was wide to the right, just as it was against San Diego State a week ago. |
