Rifle had a 7-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and grabbed a 35-31 edge in the third quarter of the girls' basketball game. Kim Hamblin was the top scorer for Uintah at 14 points and Lynnette Merrell scored 12 points. Also scoring counters for Uintah were Pennie Murray, 8; Johnna Wiseman, 6; Susette Cooper, 3; Mari Green, 3 and Chantae Julius, 3. Rifle's top scorer was Mazuchi at 19. Uintah blasted Rifle in two junior varsity games. The score was tied at 8-8 in the first quarter of the first junior varsity game and Uintah blanked Rifle in the second quarter 9-0 for a 17-8 lead. Uintah had a 25-16 lead after three quarters and blanked Rifle 11-0 in the fourth quarter. Deah Bennion was the number one Ute scorer at ten points. Also scoring points for Uintah were Mari Green, 7; Sheryl Neal, 7; Michelle Green, 6; Sherry Chavez, 4 and Vicki Fowler, 2. Rifle jumped out to a 10-8 lead in the first quarter, but Uintah rallied for a 16-11 16-11 advantage in the second quarter. The Utes had a 42-32 advantage after three quarters and won the game 53-40. MaeLynn Gray was the top Ute point gainer at 19 counters and Michelle Green put in ten points. Also scoring points were Cooper, 6; Rene Jackson, 4; Neal, 3; Tori Limb, 2; Chavez, 2; Michelle Swim, 2; Fowler, 2 and Bennion, 1. Uintah toppled Rock Springs in the junior varsity encounter 34 to 26. Rock Springs had a 13-10 lead after one quarter and had an 18-13 advantage at the end of the second quarter. However, Uintah grabbed a 25-21 lead in the third quarter and won the game 34-26. Michelle Green and Gray were Uintah's top scorers at 8 points and Cooper, Fowler, Mari Green and Swim scored four points. Jackson put in two points. The Utes will battle Rock Springs on the road Thursday and will hest Union Friday. Uintah will take on the Vikings in Pleasant Grove Tuesday, Dec. 22 and will host Provo Jan. 5. Uintah cut Rock Springs' lead to six points at 31-25 in the third quarter, but a point depression of three counters and a scoring eruption by Rock Springs turned turn-ed a close game into a 49 to 28 triumph for the Tigers from Rock Springs, Saturday. The Utes garnered a 10-6 lead in the first quarter on ten points by Kim Hamblin. Hamilton dried up in the point scoring department as the Utes scored seven points on two points by Pennie Murray, Lynnette Merrell and Mari Green and one pointer by MaeLynn Gray. Uintah scored eight points and Rock Springs produced ten points in the third quarter. The Utes scored only three points in the fourth quarter on a field goal by Neal and a free throw by Johnna Wiseman. Top scorers for Rock Springs in the fourth quarter were Pomrenke, 6; Carter, 4 and Crumpler, 4. Hamblin was the number one Uintah scorer at ten points. She scored all of her points in the first quarter. Murray tossed in six counters. Also scoring points for Uintah were Merrell, 4; Green, 2; Neal, 2; Chantae Julius, 2; Wiseman, 1 and Gray, 1. The top scorer in the game was Rock Springs' Pomrenke at 28 points. |
