Ute team thumps Cougars Uintah's junior varsity team ripped Union, 55-6 and blasted Provo in Vernal, Ver-nal, Thursday, 61 to 6. The Utes' Chris Smith pinned Davis of Union at the 1:11 mark of the first round and Mark Augustus, 105, pinned Shawn Cuch at the 1:43 mark of the second round. Union acquired its first win due to a 10-6 win by Ronnie Rich over 112 pounder Leslie Gorman. The Cougars cut Uintah's Uin-tah's lead to six points on a 7-4 win by Nielson over Seymore Bedonie in the 119 pound encounter. Kary McNeill returned Uintah to its winning ways with a close 8-6 win over 126 pounder, Tony Winn. Winn gained two takedowns in the first round for a 4-2 lead, but a reversal and a three point near fall gave McNeill a 7-4 lead after two rounds. Winn gained a reversal to cut McNeill's lead to one point, but McNeill pocketed an escape for an 8-6 win. Uintah's Brad Dickson, 132, downed Union's Stacy Hadlock, 6-3 and Kent Boren, 138, pinned Morgan at the 47 second se-cond mark of the second round. The Utes' Bucky Tingey, 145, blasted Miller, 17-3 and Jerry Haslem, 167, used only 42 seconds to pin Secrest. Scott Gardner, 185, pinned Buchanan with 1:19 left in the second round. Wilkerson of Union downed 105 pounder, David Webb, 21-13 and Dale Fedelleck, Uintah, 126, pinned Brown in exhibition matches. Larson Caldwell, 126, massacred Jenkins, 21-0. Jamie Evans and Barry Hancock won junior varsity matches due to forfeits. The Utes won six of the first seven matches with Provo due to pins. 98 pounder, Smith, pinned Charlie Headman Head-man with one second left in the first round and 105 pounder, Augustus used a forfeit to win his match. Gorman pinned pinn-ed Robert Paramore in the first round and Bedonie placed Steve Canfield's shoulder blades flat against the mat with seven seconds left in the first round. McNeill pinned Shawn Morgan in the first round and Dickson gained a first round pin in his match with Ed Rowe. Boren gave Uintah a 42-0 lead when he pinned Mike Tate in the second round. Tingey decked Joe Kimball, 13-2 and Haslem downed Cortney Rogers, 10-6. Evans and Hancock won matches due to forfeits and Provo gained its only win when Jeff Miller, 185, pinned Gardner in the first round. Uintah downed Provo in exhibition matches, 32-5. Troy Thomas, 98, pinned Kelly Scott in the second round and Webb and Micky Cox tied at 11-11. Layne Chapman, 132, pinned Provo's Kelly Wardle in the second round. Uintah's Uin-tah's Danny Anderson pinned 138 pounder, Ken Leichty. John Mageno, 138, Provo, blanked Chad Bedell, 6 0. David Giesc, 145, pinned Mike Mackey in the first round. The Utes will battle American Fork on the road, Thursday at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and will take part in the Rock Springs Spr-ings Tournament, Friday and Saturday. Satur-day.
