Show U-42874 UTAH: Proposed Modification of Withdrawal and Opportunity Oppor-tunity for Public Hearing The Bureau of Land Management, United States Department of the Interior, proposes that the existing land withdrawal made by Public Land Order 972 on June 15, 1954 be continued for a period of twenty years, pursuant to Section Sec-tion 204 of the Federal Land Policy and Management Manage-ment Act of October 21, 1976. The lands are described as follows: Salt Lake Meridian, Utah T.3S., R.20E., sec. 1; sec. 12; containing 720 acres in Uintah County. The purpose of the withdrawal is to protect the water supply for the City of Vernal, Utah. The lands are currently segregated from entry under the public land laws generally including the mining and mineral leasing laws. The proposed modification modifica-tion would, continue the withdrawal for 20 years, maintain the segregation from mining location, open the lands to operation opera-tion of the public land laws generally, and open the lands to mineral leasing. leas-ing. All interested persons who desire to be heard on the proposal must submit a written request re-quest for a hearing to the undersigned on or before March 16, 1982. Upon determination by the State Director, Bureau of Land Management, that a public hearing will be held, a notice will be published in the Federal Register giving the lime and place of such hearing. hear-ing. In lieu of or in addition addi-tion to attendance at a scheduled public hearing, written comments or objections ob-jections to the proposed withdrawal continuation may be filed. The authorized officer of the Bureau of l.and Management will undertake under-take such investigations as are necessary to determine deter-mine the existing and potential demand for the land and its resources. He will review the withdrawal -justification to insure that continuation con-tinuation would Ih? consistent consis-tent with the statutory objectives ob-jectives of the programs for which the land is dedicated, the area involved in-volved is the minimum essential to meet the desired needs; the maximum max-imum concurrent utilization utiliza-tion of the land is provided provid-ed for; and nn agreement is reached on the concurrent concur-rent management of the land and its resources. He will also prepare a rexrt for consideration by the Secretary of the Interior, the President, and Congress, Con-gress, who will determine whether or not the withdrawal will be continued con-tinued and if so, for how long. The final determination deter-mination on the continuation continua-tion of the withdrawal will be published in the Federal Register. The existing ex-isting withdrawal will continue until such final determination is made.
