Uintah grabbed a 6-0 lead when Jerry Tingey, 98, pinned Wayne Hansen with 39 seconds left in the second round. Morrill nabbed a 11-0 lead in the first round due to three near falls and a takedown. Uintah's Morrill added four more near falls and a reversal in the second round for a 24-0 lead. Morrill afso pocketed two near falls in the final round. Union pocketed victories in the next two matches to cut Uintah's lead to five points at 11-6. Bardett Fausett dropped Keith Campbell for a takedown in the first round, but Campbell gained a neutral to narrow Fausett's lead to one point. Fausett and Campbell both gained a neutral and a takedown in the second round and Fausett had a 5-4 lead going into the final round. Fausett locked up the victory when he turned Campbell over for a three-point near fall and an 8-4 win. Two takedowns in the first round gave Union's Farrell McCook a 4-2 lead, but two neutrals and a takedown by Wilbert Woody tied up the contest at 6-6 in the second round. Four penalty points due to delay of match calls against McCook plus a neutral gave Woody a 11-9 lead. However, McCook gained a neutral with 36 seconds left to tie up the contest at 11-11, but a neutral gave Woody a 12-11 lead. McCook won the match when he gained a takedown and turned over Woody for a two-point near fall with 13 seconds remaining in the match which gave McCook a 15-12 win. The 126 pound contest featured a battle between a state champion. Jeff Samuels and a 3-A state placer in David Gentry. Gentry struck for early wrestling paydirt with a takedown, but Samuels nabbed a reversal to tie up the contest at 2-2. A reversal in the second round gave Samuels a 4-2 lead h 2 Gentry nabbed a reversal for a u l which made the score after five ml? ches Uintah 13 and Union 8. The Utes' 145 pounder Torr McCurdv ( acquired a takedown in the first round but Kenny Anderton tied up the contest X at 3-3 in the second round. McCurdy ' outscored Anderton in the final round I tf 2and won the match by the score of 5.5 I Uintah's Darrin Bailey had leads of 2-1 1 in the first round and 4-3 in the second ( round, but he didn't have the lead when it counted as he was defeated by J Mervin Glines 5-4 in the 145 pound' match. Anderton nabbed a reversal in1 the third round for the win. The Utes' lead went from eight points ! ' to 24 points due to pins in the remaining ' four matches. Smuin, 155, pinned Laird Hamblin with 40 second left in the first round and Jenkins pinned Charles Percival, 167, with 28 seconds remaining in the second round. Jenkins grabbed an 8-0 lead in the first round due to a takedown and two near falls.
