Smuin placed first in the event and the Utes won the contest by the score of 128 to 22. Jydlg) erew, T12-22 The Uintah Utes opened their track season in grand style as they bombed the Judge Memorial Bulldogs in Vernal, Ver-nal, Thursday, 128 to 22 and captured 15 out of 17 possible first places. Two Uintah Utes, Rick Morton and Jerry Allred pocketed three individual crowns and Dave Emery nabbed two first place titles. Morton placed first in the 100 meter dash at 11.05 and leaped 19'9" for first place in the long jump. Morton captured first place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.18. Allred garnered first place in the 1600 meter run (mile) with a time of 4:37.61 and placed first in the 3200 (2 mile) meter run with a time of 10:56.14. Allred pocketed first place in the 800 meter run with a 2:07.34 tally. Emery picked up top honors in the javelin with a toss of 174 feet and placed first in the shot put at 44 feet. Kirt Bascom, Uintah, acquired first place in the 100 meter hurdles at 20.31 and Gary Galley leaped 5'6" for first place in the high jump. Randy Smuin netted first place in the 300 meter hurdles at 45.25 and Jody Young and Kenny Page placed first in the pole vault at 9'6". Roger Griffin garnered first place in the discus at 110'8". Uintah's relay teams placed first in the medley, 4:22.06 and 400 , 46.09. Judge Memorial's Mike Curtin pocketed first place in the 400 meter run at 51.17 and Judge nabbed first place in the 1600 (mile) relay. Griffin pocketed second place in the 110 hurdles with a time of 20.36 and Judge's Dan Quinn picked up third place at 20.72. Mike Johnson garnered second place in the 100 meter dash at 11.64 and Brian Long placed third at 11.66. Calvin Knight nabbed second place in the 1600 meter run at 5:04.75 and Doug Gardner placed third at 5:31.70. Smuin placed second in the 400 meter run at 52.47 and Johnson netted third place at 52.53. Brent Hales placed second in the javelin at 152 feet and Chris Kelkas, Judge Memorial, netted third place at 148'4". Judge Memorial nabbed second place in the 400 relay at 51.83.
