Show CaSy Lucira ages" resigns, CUP fre$R?en$. stopped - Last Tuesday at a special Vernal City Council meeting, Shane Luck resigned from his position as city manager, a position he held since Sept. 10, 1978. In a brief letter of resignation, he stated that he had accepted employment em-ployment with a local firm, Clark Construction, where he will be working in development. "While many good things have been accomplished, they did not offset my disappointment with the lack of progress in the city because of dissention," Luck later said in regards to his resignation. Luck said that he realized that the timeliness of his resignation wasn't the best, but that he felt his staying would not make enough difference to warrant continuing in the office. He emphasized the fact that he wasn't angry about his resignation, but disappointed. "A lot of potential is at our fingertips, but is not available because of politics," Luck said. Luck's resignation will be effective April 15, but in his letter of resignation he said he would be available to help the city on contract if it was necessary. Although Luck later said he didn't want to resign his position as city manager, and he was not asked to, he said, "The role of city manager right now didn't leave an alternative with the valley embroiled in politics." Luck came to Vernal City from. Murray City where he was the director of administrative services. He graduated with a Bachelors degree from BYU and was nearing completion of a professional graduate degree in management at the University of Utah. "In light of the environment which the city manager must deal with here, I hope the city will be able to enlist the professional help they need to meet the oncoming growth," Luck said. In other business the council discussed having Central Utah Conservancy Con-servancy District build Vernal a water treatment plant. To date the council hasn't made an official decision on whether to have CUP construct the treatment plant, but CUP continues to do preliminary work on the project. The city is wrestling with the question of whether to go with the CUP on the treatment plant or build it alone. At the meeting the council made the motion for CUP and Uintah Water Conservancy Con-servancy District to stop all preliminary work on a treatment plant until they meet with the Vernal City Council to discuss a contract and other details of the project. Luck said he called the CUP and had set up a meeting on April 24 to discuss the project and CUP involvement. |
