Show Manila 1 Clara Robinson Phone 784-5333 New Fire truck arrives in Manila The Manila Fire Department has a new fire truck. It arrived Friday, May 2. On Saturday, the firemen checked it out. They took it to the river and filled it up and practiced using the hoses. Manila students attended and participated par-ticipated in the drama festival held at Weber State College April 24 and 25. Leeanne Redden received an "excellent" "ex-cellent" on her mono-act. The following students received "good" on scenes from plays: Kevin Slaugh and Mitch Ford, Kevin Mitchell and Blaine Thompson and Alan Friedman and Christy Jo Triplett. Ron Hamblin, music instructor at Manila Hgh School, reports that the Manila music department students received 12 points at the State Music Competition. This was the best of any school of Manila's size. Last week the platings for' the demonstrations given by the Manila girls at the Sweetwater County 4-H demonstration competion the first weekend in April was reported. Vicky Marquez and Shanna Rosser received a blue ribbon for their team demonstration demon-stration and Easter decoration "Easter Surprize." Nola Lam also received a blue ribbon on her demonstration on "Home Remedies." These were the only Manila girls competing. The Nimble Needles 4-H club has elected its officers. The new president is Michelle Steinaker; Susie Cook, secretary and treasurer; Shari Keed, vice president. Secretaries, reporters and historian were elected from each project group and records will be consolidated. On Saturday, April 25, a "Food Shot-Off" Shot-Off" for 4-H members of Sweetwater County was held in Rock Springs, Wyo. Some of the Manila girls participated in this. They were Vicky Marquez who received a blue ribbon on her fish dinner in which she had prepared a dish called "vegetable delight." Shanna Rosser won a blue ribbon with her Mexican dinner in which she prepared "Mexican rice." Kimberly Maloy received a red ribbon on her "taco salad." Manila had a new high in temperature tem-perature this week. On May 1, the temperature reached 80 degrees. The area received some moisture in fact quite a bit totaling .95 in 2 days. On Friday .24 of an inch fell and on Saturday there was .71. The storm Saturday was partly hail which stripped some leaves from the trees. Apricots on the tree are still there, but there are some dents in them. Saturday and Sunday was Stake Conference for the LDS Church held in Green River, Wyo. Quite a few people from Manila attended. Mr. and Mrs. Deven Long visited at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Long this weekend. |
