The Vernal team posted a 3-2 record. AAA Appliance of Grand Junction , toppled the Lamplighter Restaurant ! new in the first game, 21 to 8. The AAA ! had nine homers and the Vernal team had three home runs. The Lamplighter crew nipped the Winery of Grand Junction, 6 to 4, in the . cond game and the Vernal team shattered Chuck's Glass of Montrose, Colorado, 23 to 9. Dave King had a Brand slam and Arvel Tassainer had Jo homers. The Vernal baseballers ; ned Pierce Oil of Price, 16 to 5, in ; fourth game. The four games were ; played on Saturday. Lamphghter and Bar-X of Grand Junction competed in the battle for third and fourth place, Sunday. The game was a see-saw battle until the top of the fifth inning when Bar-X scored four runs on a grand slam. Lamplighter scored in the bottom of the fifth to cut Bar-X's lead to 15 to 10. Both teams failed to score in the sixth inning and the game was called due to the time limit rule. Gary Monsen had some outstanding plays in the outfield and Craig Monsen used his bat well in placing the ball all over the field. King had a grand slam. Tassainer had six homers and was named to the all tournament team. Ted Taylor, Lamplighters' pitcher, had a strike out against a batter on the Chuck's Glass team. |
