Duchesne, Tabiona, West and Altamont competed in the annual 9th grade Basin Day Track Meet in Vernal. Friday. Roosevelt captured first place with 86 points and Craig placed second at 75 counters. Vernal netted third place with 50 points and West captured fourth place at 13 counters. Altamont garnered fifth place at six points. The trophy was accidentally awarded to Craig due to a mistake in the adding up of the scores. A trophy will be awarded to Roosevelt. Vernal's Neldon Smuin captured first place in the 440 yard dash with a time of 56.66. Roosevelt captured eight first places and had two tracksters nab two crowns each. Chad Richard placed first in the 100 yard dash at 11.63 and nabbed first place in the shot put at 46'8". Matt Freestone captured first places in the 220 yard dash at 25.14 and in the long jump at 17'10'2". Mecham placed first in the 880 yard dash at 2:19.12 and Raymond Sundin pocketed first place in the triple jump at 36'6". Roosevelt captured first place in the 440 yard relay at 49.09 and in the 880 yard relay at 1:53.45. Vernal also captured first place in the medley relay at 1:47.97. West's Rohr placed first in the mile at 5:18 89 and Altamont's Rowley leaped 5'1" for first place in the high jump. Craig captured three first places as Pyle placed first in the pole vault at 9'6", Gates nabbed first place in the discus at 128'2'2" and Brewer won the 120 yard low hurdles at 15.17. Vernal nabbed two second places as Smuin placed second in the 100 yard dash at 11.72 and Kurt Robb netted second place in the discus at 122'11' j".
