Show U.S. Air Force band tfo give oufldioor concert The U.S. Air Force Academy Concert Band, the "Falconaires" and "Moods in Blue Singers" will give an outdoor performance in Vernal Monday, July 21, starting at 7 p.m. in the Uintah County-Vernal City Bicentennial Pavilion on 10th West and 4th North. The Air Force Academy band is on its 1980 summer tour presenting concerts in urand Junction and Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Vernal, Salt Lake City, Provo and Ogden, Utah. The Concert Band produces some of me iineai, most varied and exciting sounds in music today. As part of the youngest major service band, it has placed its name at the top with the nation's most outstanding military musical organizations. The 50-piece unit performs regularly scheduled concerts at the Air Force Academy in Arnold Hall, the 3,000-seat Cadet Theater, throughout the year. These performances are normally held monthly from September through May with occasional concerts scheduled in the beauutul 17-spire Cadet Chapel. The band's summer concert series held each Sunday during July and August continues to be one of the largest musical events in the Pikes Peak region. These are informal family concerts that feature numerous soloists from within the Band in addition to smaller ensembles and guest artists. Versatility is the keyword with the Concert Band as its music is designed to satisfy the ear ot the most discriminating listener. Their performances per-formances always feature a wide range of musical sytles with vocal as well as instrumental soloists, the Moods in Blue omgers, a vocal group comprised of concert band members, and original arrangements by the Band's own talented arranging staff. The Band appears throughout the nation each year with performances on local and national television, music educators' conventions and clinics and numerous civic concerts. A rigid audition is required for entrance en-trance to the Concert Band with highly accomplished musicians attracted due to the professional level of performance maintained. The "Falconaires" are exicitng proof that "big bands are back!" In a time when it is fashionable to perform arrangements made popular by name bands such as Maynard Ferguson, Stan Kenton, Woody Herman and the like, this band relies on the original arrangements and compositions of its own members. This is no carbon copy band but a unique ensemble with the professionalism to remain contemporary con-temporary without sacrificing its high musical standards. Members of the Falconaires, enlisted professional musicians in the United States Air Force Academy Band, have come from some of the finest colleges and big bands in the country. To pass the rigorous audition and become a member of this group is an honor in itself. The new and captivating addition to the Air Force, Academy Band, the "Moods in Blue" vocal show group is Major John D. McCord, commander, and conductor of the U.S. Air Force Academy Band. In addition to directing the Moods in Blue, he also arranges much of the music performed by the group.
