UINTAH UTES DEFEAT DUCHESNE TO CAPTURE REGION SIX TITLE Uintah Utes are again on the bottom rungs of the ladder leading to a championship in baseball with the Region Six title sewed up following Tuesday's game with Duchesne when the Utes scored 16 over the Duchesne's four. Winning pitcher was Kenny Edrington, who gave up three hits, walked five batters and allowed two runs. He was relieved in the seventh inning by Jeff Johnson who relinquished two hits, no walks and allowed two runs. Dennis Grant of Duchesne gave up 13 hits, seven walks and was rapped for 16 runs. Duchesne picked up two runs in the third inning on a base on balls to Bench, a single by Karren and a double by Grant. They brought two more men to home base in the seventh inning on a single by Bench, single by Karren and another double by Grant. Uintah scored in every inning, but the third and fifth. Levi Smuin went to first on a single and later hit a triple. Jimmy Johnson had a single, two base on balls; Gary Willins a single, double, base on balls and four runs batted in. UINTAH DEFEATS UNION The Union Cougars were guests of the Uintah Ute baseball club on Uintah's field Friday. Uintah walked away the victors with five runs over Union's zero. Randy Reynolds, winning pitcher for the Utes, allowed only three hits, struck out 12 batters and walked one. He relinquished two of the three hits to Jim Marshall of Union'. The Cougars' losing pitcher, Jim Marshall, gave up 10 hits, walked two, struck out two and allowed five runs. The hitting attack by Uintah was led by Greg Hatch, who had two singles in three times at bat. Levi Smuin who was injured in the ball game, hit a double his only time at bat. Gary Wilkins, Jeff Johnson, and Paul Stanfield all hit the ball well in the game. The defensive play of Jim Johnson at first base, Greg Hatch at third and the defensive catching job by Ed Johnson were tremendous, according ac-cording to Coach Ted Taylor. Both teams had scoring opportunities with Uintah stranding 11 runners in the ball game. Both teams were playing tremendous defensive baseball, according ac-cording to Coach Ted Taylor. The outstanding defensive play of the ball game was the catch of a line drive by Gary Wilkins in the third inning. Tuesday's game also saw Uintah victorious over Notre Dame 13 to 3. Randy Reynolds was the winning pitcher for the Utes. Coach Taylor said the game went in the Utes' favor from the bottom of the first inning. Uintah scored five runs in the first inning, and from that point on, had almost free sailing. Reynolds pitched the whole game, striking out eight . batters.
