Show 20 YEARS AGO July 21, 1960 Vernal still was retaining its reputation this week as one of the "coolest" spots in the state. The mercury was resting quietly on the 94 mark while in Salt Lake City residents suffered a torrid 104 and St. George wilted at 112. Vernal residents also were having little discomfort sleeping at night when the temperature fell into the low 50's. Salt Lake City reports this week said that the excessive heat was causing water apparatus to fail, gasoline station attendants couldn't operate gas pumps and many drivers had stalled cars from vapor lock. |
