Show JY , by Corey W. Gnu , Public Inlo. Chairman, . I Uintah Co. Unit Amer. Cancer Soc DICKNOURSE Walk with Nourse QUESTION: What is the Walk with Dick Nourse? ANSWER: This is a special event sponsored by the Utah Division of the American Cancer Society, to call attention at-tention to a remarkable story. The main events will be held in Salt Lake City on the evening of July 22. Marchers Mar-chers will walk several blocks with Dick Nourse, a popular KSL television anchor man, and several other notables such as Mayor Ted Wilson, Bob Welti and Paul James. At Liberty Park, a program has been planned to entertain the church, civic and business leaders ; who walk with Nourse, who said he was. happy to cooperate in the campaign "because I feel that victims of the disease must be acquainted with the true facts and told of the symptoms, the chances of cure and what is being done in research." Some time ago, Dick decided to see a doctor because of what he thought was a bad case of flu. It was cancer instead. He told Howard Pearson in a Deseret News interview that, "It was scary. It was like being hit between the eyes. I wondered how long I had. Then the doctors comforted me and explained that in the form of cancer I had, the recovery rate was 70 percent, and that was five years ago." Today, he's back on the air. When I first heard of his cancer, my reaction was probably a common one, thinking that Dick Nourse had met his end. It requires a revamping of one's thought patterns to realize that today, many people are being cured of cancer. The Uintah Unit of ACS is planning our own celebration of Dick Nourse's victory. On July 22, at 7:30 p.m., in the Golden Agen Center, area residents are invited to a special program. Speakers include Bonnie Jones and yours truly. Entertainment will feature Blaine Pierce, Dennis Holmes and LeAnn Stringham. It will be a most informative in-formative evening, and you're invited. 'Truth is rarely pure and never simple."
