Show Employ the Handicapped Week Being Observed "Yes We Can" is the theme of the week for National Employ the Handicapped Week, Oct. ?3 to 9, 1976. Mayor W. D. McDougald declared Moab a part of the national observance with a proclamation naming Moab as a participating city in National Employ the Physically Handicapped Handi-capped Week. His proclamation calls upon the people of the Moab area to cooperate with the Mayor's Committee on Employment of the Handicapped in calling public attention to the need for state and district wide support of programs designed to increase opportunities in employment em-ployment for handicapped persons. Frequently through the year employers are encouraged to consider the utilization of all the many capabilities of persons with physical handicaps. handi-caps. But once a year a week is set aside for the renewal of a determination that each person per-son seeking work shall be considered for what he "can" do. "Yes We Can" is frequently the very essence of the philosophy of the handicapped regarding work. Particularly during this week it seems fitting that it should become the philosophy of all employers employ-ers when chances to hire and use handicapped persons occur. oc-cur. 1 Employers should say, "Yes We Can" make adjustments to the job and the physical features of the working area; "Yes We Can" quit worrying about what people can't do, for every person is handicapped in some measure, and hire for what they can do. "Yes We Can" is the reply coming from handicapped who J are offered the chance to work. |
