Show Application studied for cycle race near Green River An application to hold a cross-country motorcycle race has been received from the Green River Squad of the Emery County Sheriffs Posse, Pos-se, according to Sam Rowley, Area Manager for the Bureau of Land Management's San Rafael Resource Area. The proposed race would be held southwest of Green River, Utah, on October 9. It would be similar to the race held last fall by the Posse. The event would start at a point about 14 miles southwest south-west of Green River. The race course would begin near the San Rafael River, run southwest south-west about 4 or 5 miles east of Utah State Highway 24, cross the highway just north of the Hanksville airport, then turn north along the base of the San Rafael Reef, and turn east to end where it began. The Sheriffs Posse expects up to 175 entrants In the proposed event which would be sanctioned sanc-tioned by District 26 of the American Motorcycle Association. Asso-ciation. Mr. Rowley stated that a team has been appointed to prepare the required environmental environ-mental analysis for the event. During the month of Sept., the team will be studying the impacts that the event would have on the environment and on other resource uses in the area. A decision on the application appli-cation will be made by the Bureau based on the report. Mr. Rowley, stressing the importance of public participation partici-pation in this study and decision process, urged anyone any-one who has information that might be useful or who would like to comment on the proposed pro-posed race to contact the Bureau of Land Management in Pric before September 26. |
