' Tough Roger Farnsworth, quarterback for the powerful South Sevier Rams, drove for big yardage all night long against a battered Moeb defense. Senior Farnsworth was well remembered by Moab for his outstanding performance two years ago as a sophomore, when he carried the ball over 40 times in the state Class HA semifinals in Price, which Moab barely won. Although leading all during the first half, Moab lost in the finale by a score of 12 to 6, and the Devils were not able to mount anything resembling an effective offense all during the final three quarters of play. The first score of the game came early. Moab began the skirmish looking a lot more seasoned than they had in their first two games. After an effective first quasrter drive from mid-field, Quarterback Greg Larsen tossed the ball to Jeff Meador in the end zone for the first score of the game. The running try for an extra two points failed. Shortly after the half, outstanding runner, Roger Farnsworth. quarterback for the Monroe team, took the ball in for a score after gaining consistent yardage on end keeps to get the ball in scoring position. He continued to run effectively against Moab all day. Farnsworth is finishing an outstanding three years of grid play at South Sevier, and his performance Friday night in Moab was outstanding, Monroe's try for extra point was short. With the score tied at 6-6, both teams attempted to get more points on the board as the game drew to an end. Finally, a pass to John Roscher on the Moab 30 yard line was completed, and the tall receiver receiv-er went the thirty yards for the final score. Again, South Sevier's kick was no good. A game Red Devil team, playing with less than a minute to go, fought back with a passing attack which was crippled all evening by rushing linebackers who could not be contained by the Moab offensive offen-sive line, and by the loss in the first quarter of top receiver, Jeff Meador who left the game following a ruckus. Receptions got the Devils a long way up-field, but the clock ran out on them, leaving them with their first loss of the season. This week they tackle a tough Richfield team, at Richfield on Friday night. Richfield has a win and loss record so far this year, but their loss was at the hands of last year's state champs, Millard, and Richfield gave Millard about all they wanted last week. |
