Show (Jomp, NcjWB Jilo Box Lincoln, Neb. G0506 :Grand valuation jumped a hm $3 mlion Li l.i.ind dimity's assessed valuation "cut up u whopping $.5 million dollars this year, it was announced Tuesday by Kenneth A. Ueach, Grand County Assessor. That means that for each mill levied by Grand County and Grand County School District, the taxing unit will receive .some $.1,000 more than they received for a mill last year. This year's total valuation was listed at $29,441,919, according to Mr. Beach, compared to $26,432,815 last year, with increases noted in all areas except for livestock, which is a minimal part of the county's valuation total. Taxpayers, however, will receive little direct benefit from the increased valuation levels, since mill levies were raised in three separate areas. Grand County School District this year is levying 41.39 mills as opposed to 41.29 last year; the Moab Valley Fire District jumped its levy from 3 to 4 mills and Moab City raised a total of two mills from 19.50 to 21.50 mills. In addition, Spanish Valley residents will now be taxed 4 mills for fire protection purposes in Spanish Valley. Mr. Beach noted that increases in valuation were as follows: Real Estate values jumped from $2.54 million to $2.57 million. Buildings, structures, etc., went from $5.98 million to $6.35 million a tremendous increase reflecting the increased building in Moab and Grand County have experienced during the year. Personal Property jumped a full million, from $6.06 to $7.04 million. Livestock values decreased from $250 thousand to $246 thousand. Values assessed by (lie Slate of Utah dor mining, utilities, railroads and transmission lines, oilfields, etc.) amounted to $12.24 million, as opposed to $11.5 million last year. The last time Grand County noted an increase in valuation that was anywhere near as large as this year's jump was in 1973, when a several million-dollar jump was experienced. That jump, however, was caused by a re-assessment of property values by the Utah State Tax Commission, and not by any particular growth. This year's jump is tied directly to an increase in the areas mentioned above. |
