Show Democrats Meet in Convention This Saturday in Salt Lake "We're coming through in '72!" That's the war cry of the Utah, State Democratic Dem-ocratic Convention, which will be held at the ' Salt Palace, Saturday, June 12. from 1 to' 5 p.m. , Keynote speaker wall - be Gov. Mike O'Callahan of Nevada. The Convention will hear remarks by Gov. Calvin L. Ratnpton, Sen. Frank E. Moss and Congressman Con-gressman , Gunn MacKay. Invocation will be by Congressman Con-gressman , Gunn McKay Governor O'Callahan will !be introduced by Governor Gover-nor Rampfon. Chairman of the Convention and Master of Ceremonies will be State Senator Thorpe B. Wad-dingham, Wad-dingham, Delta. Vice chairman chair-man is Mrs. Katie Hansen, Democratic Chairman of Sanpete County and Principal Prin-cipal of Wasatch Academy, private school in Mount Pleasant, Utah. One of the principal business bus-iness activities of the con- . vention ;. will be the adopt'-' ion of a. constitution andM by-laws, the proposal for which has 'been two years in the making by a committee commit-tee under the direction of Dr. Claude Burtenshaw, Dean of students, Utah State University. Election of Party officials offici-als is expected to occupy the keen attention of del egates. At the present, no fc'Pposition has surfaced concerning the proposed re - election of the incumbent incum-bent Chairman, John Klas; Vice Chairman Val Boothe, Bringham City; Party Secretary Sec-retary Beverly White, Tooele; To-oele; and Treasurer David Duncan, Ogden. Other major matters of business will be consideration consider-ation of. the resolutions presented by the . Resolutions Resolu-tions ' Committee under the direction of Chairman Lionel Lion-el Frankel, professor, University Uni-versity of Utah School of Law. (Note: These are now on hand at State Dam- ocratic Headquarters, 328-0239.) 328-0239.) A significant sidelight of the Convention will be the appearance of John Douglas, Doug-las, Washington, D. C, son of former Sen. Paul Douglas, Doug-las, and National Chairman Chair-man of the McGovern for President campaign and former Chief Assistant for Robert Kennedy during his tenure as Attorney General. Gener-al. Mr. Douglas will address ad-dress Convention delegates at a reception sponsored by the local Citizens for McGovern Mc-Govern organization, which will take place at the Salt Palace at the conclusion of the Convention. Members of the 100 Club, Democratic fund-raising organization, will hear Sen. Birch Bayh, Indiana, also mentioned as a possible Presidential candidate, at a reception at the Rode-way Rode-way Inn at 6:30 p.m. Capping the day's events willl be the annual tradi-tional tradi-tional Jefferson - Jackson ' Day' dinner, a $25 per plate affair, which will take place at the University of Utah Union Building at 8 p. m., under the chairman- ship of Donald B. Hplbrook and Mrs. Milton Saathoff, at which Sen. Bayh will be ithe featured speaker. |
