Show Employment up here, reports Job Service Figures recently released releas-ed by the Job Service office for the second quarter of fiscal year 1978 indicate that in July, the total number of employed in Grand County was 3,581, up from 3,421 a year ago. The number of people unemployed in July 1978 was 215 compared to 204 in July 1977, an increase of 5.4 percent. The report states that these movements move-ments have left the seasonally adjusted unemployment unem-ployment rate of 5.3 percent in July 1978 unchanged from July last vear. The report goes on to say that during the first six months of 1978, job openings listed with the Job Service office by local employers were up by nearly 9 percent from 1977. In addition, through June 1978, two percent more people were placed on jobs than last year. During the first half of 1978, total weeks claimed for unemployment insurance insur-ance decreased by 2.1 percent but total benefits paid were 2.1 percent higher this year. Tourist room sales in the county in the first quarter of 1978 increased 9.2 percent compared to a year ago. For the same comparative periods, gross taxable sales rose 26.2 percent. Building construction activity in Grand County through the first six months of 1978 was up 31 percent in valuation from a year ago. A more than doubling of nonresidential valuation this year compared com-pared to last accounted for a majority of the total construction valuation increase. |
