Show John Presfon Greer Files j For Governor's Race John Preston Creer, Democrat, Demo-crat, announced his candidacy for Governor of Utah this week. In his announcement he said, "There is no state in this nation in which I would rather live and raise my family. The values that have made this, state great are values that I cherish and I would seek, if elected, to maintian an atmosphere atmos-phere in which these values flourish." ' Creer received his education in Salt Lake City Schools, a degree in banking and finance t from , University , of Utah and Juris Doctor from George Washington University Law School. He is a member of the local, 'state and national bar associations. He has served as a commissioner for Salt Lake County, as Deputy Salt Lake County Attorney and as Executive Assistant, U.S. Congressman. Con-gressman. He has also sat on several advisory and planning boards. In the Democratic Party, he has held several chairmanships. chairman-ships. "My family has enjoyed a long tradition in the Democratic Party in Utah," he said. "My grandfather, James H. Moyle, was the founder of the Democratic Party in Utah in 1892. He ran for Governor in 1900 and the U.S. Senate in 1914 against Reed Smoot, who by the way was the grandfather grand-father of my good friend, Stan Smoot, a Republican candidate for Governor." He stated that he has a strong John Preston Creer desire to make the governmen- . tal institutions more effective and efficient; to balance our need for clean air and ' beautiful scenery with the ' need to employ the people and to use the natural resources for the benefit of all. "I have a desire to have our state government withstand the temptation of going into debt , to pay for things we cannot , afford. I have a desire to see , that people are clothed and . housed and employed," he said. Creer is married and the father of five children. |
