Show Services Held Here Mar. 26 For Former Police Chief Funeral services were held March 26 in the Community Baptist Church for Kenneth Emil Aikins, former Moab Police Chief, who died suddenly sud-denly March 26. Born Oct. 23, 1913 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Ulysses S. and Sophie Aikins, he was educated in Columbus, Nebraska, Neb-raska, elementary and high schools. His work before marriage was in his father's business. On May 21, 1934, he married Alice Addell Butler at Council Bluffs, Iowa, and together they made ther home inColumbus the ensuing 22 years. They were blessed with a son, Larrell L. Aikins, now residing in Columbus. It was there that Ken began his career as a police officer. In September 1954 the Aikins came to Moab where Ken was employed by Midland telephone Co. Later he accepted accept-ed employment with the Moab Police Department, and in 1965 became Chief of Police, a position he held until 1969. His last employment was as Security Police at the Green River, Utah, Missile Base. Ken was a member of the First Baptist Church inColumbus inColum-bus from boyhood. During his police career he was a member of the National Rifle Association and the National Peace Officers Asso-widow, Asso-widow, Alice and son Larrell, the Moab Chamber of Commerce Com-merce during his years as Chief of Police. His hobbies were many and varied. Ken loved the outdoors and all it offered, including hunting, fisning, camping and archery. The most outstanding hobby, for which he is best known, was photography, both movies and still. Ken is survived by his widow, Alice, and son Larrell, and wife, Norma, and 3 grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 sisters, Dorothy Butler, Verndale, Minn., and Lucille Carstenson,' Roseville, Calif. Lucille was in Moab for services here and Dorothy planned to attend the services in Columbus, where interment was arranged in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery under the direction of McKown Funeral Home. Moab services were officiated officiat-ed by Rev. Emil M. Balla and were under the direction of Grand Valley Mortuary. Pallbearers Pall-bearers were Bill Foote, Dale Foote, J. Wallace Corbin, Fred Radcliffe, Emmett Mays and Joe Lemon. Honorary pallbearers pall-bearers were Harold Jacobs, Duane Wimmer, Clifford Ald-ridge, Ald-ridge, Haskell Bowman, Howard How-ard Balsley and Ken McDou-gald. |
