Show High Use Forces Moab To Ration Water Water shortages in Moab during recent weeks finally reached a point last week where rationing of lawn watering wa-tering became a necessity Mayor Winford Bunce stated this week that from all indications, indi-cations, wells are pumping about the same amount of water this year as last, but the residents of the city are using considerably more. During June, the city read some 1247 meters which had used a total of 58.8 million gallons of water compared with 1215 meters last year during June which used a to. tal of 49.5 million gallons, an increase in consumption of some 9 million gallons during the month. Moab City has just completed com-pleted a new well, which will bring the total of pumping wells to 4. However, the new well will not be tesed and a pump installed for at least two more weeks and possibly longer than that. Until such time as the new well is in cperaion, the rationing will remain in effect, the Mayor May-or said. It appears now that by alternating al-ternating . days on which water can be used for lawns and gardens, the water in iho storage tanks is remaining constant rather than being depleted de-pleted to a point where resi-dens resi-dens have very little water pressure. One problem in ".he water shortage has been noticed no-ticed at the Moab Golf Course where greens and fairways are suffering from lack of water. It will be nec-cessary nec-cessary to give the course some water soon, Mayor Bunce said, rather than let it completely die. |
