Show Slave Day Enjoyed by GCHS Students One of the most humer-ous humer-ous and long remembered days of every school year took nlace Monday. October 7, with the annual "Slave Day" at G.C.H.S On this day, students from the Sophomore class who had volunteered to be sold as slaves must submit completely com-pletely to the wishes of the upper classman to whom he belonged. Slaves can be seen everywhere, pulling their masters in wagons, or carrying them on stretchers or their shoulders. Neither is it uncommon to see some poor Sophomore kissing the feet of every Senior or Junior Jun-ior that passes as a garlic .necklace dangles from his or her neck. Originally, Slave Day was used by the Seniors as a sort of initation of the Sophomores. Sopho-mores. This got out of hand, however, and for several years Slave Day was abolished abolish-ed at G.C.H.S. Year before last, however, it was reinstated rein-stated into school life, and shows signs of becoming one of the integral parts of school activities. Tuesday morning, following follow-ing Slave Day, Mr. Leland Teeples, high school principal, prin-cipal, commended the stu-dentbody stu-dentbody on their handling of the priveleges and lack of tardies to classes as a result re-sult of them. |
