Show $10,000 CAPITAL, $250,000 PROFIT Jerome Directs Important Raids 'in New YorK and Reveals Big Poolroom Frauds. NEW YORK, April 2. The poolroom pool-room situation in New York is again attracting attention, following two important im-portant raids made by the District Attorney At-torney 's office. One of the places raided was in lower Broadwav and the other at 112 Fulton street. Both apparently were distributing points of information for a chain of poolrooms, and important impor-tant books and papers regarding the illegal business, together .with a list of d union of patrons, some prominent in social so-cial and business life, were seized. 7 , ' District Attorney Jerome has had his assistants examine the seized documents docu-ments and today he makes public some of the surprising things they found. The books show that five men in the Fulton street poolroom syndicate made a profit of more than $20,000 monthly for many months. (The profits for a year are placed at $250,000, indicating what little lit-tle chance a majority of bettors have. These immense profits, it is stated, were made with a capital of $10,000. The patrons of the poolrooms included in-cluded men prominent in business, social and official circles, according to records, rec-ords, letters and checks found. The names of many of these men will be made public through grand jury proceedings pro-ceedings which the District Attorney is about to institute. The men will be called to testify and under the Dowling law thev will have to tell what they know of the business, w'uo ran it and who protected it, or go to jail. |
